Country dancing session performed by Amwell View
Chestnut class had the pleasure of having Amwell View school perform a fantastic country dancing workshop this morning. The children we superbly behaved and had a brilliant time working with a range of other children from Amwell View, learning all about country dancing. The teachers were very impressed by how quickly Chestnut class understood the routine and were able to create a wonderful dance routine. Mrs Hopwood also joined in and showed off her fantastic dance moves! A fantastic and lovely morning.
World Book Day
Check out some of our pics from World Book Day 2025. We had so much fun and we read and listened to some brilliant books.
Check out our amazing English!
We had lots of fun writing about Alice in Wonderland. We created superb setting descriptions to describe how Alice travelled into Wonderland and the amazing time she had with all the different characters along the way. We also made some pictures to go up with our work on display.
Our visit to the Church
Chestnut had the pleasure of meeting the local vicar to gain a greater understanding of the meaning behind Christmas. The children behaved beautifully and asked many interesting questions regarding traditional and non-traditional Christmas events. The children were respectful and very interested with what was being explained to them and showed a great interest in how the Christmas story is so significant after all these years. I am very proud of them all!
Home learning expectations
Reading
Each week, every pupil is expected to read at least 3 times a week and have this recorded in their reading records. Children who have their reading records with them and have read with an adult at home during the week will receive a merit. Reading records need to be in school daily as we read with the children as often as possible.
Spelling
Children will receive their spelling book on Tuesday to complete for Friday. Spellings will reflect on the teaching to be done in English and guided reading in the week. I will look over them on the weekend and adapt when needed.
Times Tables Rockstars
Pupils should be logging into TT Rockstars for at least 10 mins, 3 times a week.
Please note the expectations for pupils to be fluent by the end of the year are:
Year 3 - 1, 2,3,4,5,6 & 10
Year 4 - 1 - 12
